Deeniyat Online School is a small online school from Kashmir, India, where Mohammad Shafi Mir teaches the Qur'an, Tajweed and Qur'anic Arabic in live classes. It offers three courses — Nazirah & Tajweed, Daura-e-Qur'an and Qur'anic Arabic — for children and adults, taught in Urdu, Kashmiri, Hindi or English.

The classes are taught by Mohammad Shafi Mir, who has more than 25 years of teaching experience. He holds an MA in Arabic from the University of Kashmir, where he was a gold medalist, as well as a Fazil in Islamic Studies, an MA in Urdu and a B.Ed.

Lessons are explained in Urdu, Kashmiri, Hindi or English, so each student can learn in the language they understand best. The Qur'an itself is, of course, read in Arabic.

Yes. The school is based in Kashmir, and families across the Valley — in Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Sopore, Pulwama, Budgam, Kupwara and elsewhere — learn online from home, with lessons in Kashmiri if they wish.

Yes. Classes are online, and students may join from anywhere. Tell us your country and time zone, and we will suggest a suitable time.

Classes are kept small, so that every student can read aloud and be corrected in every class. Students learn alongside others of a similar age and level.

Yes. Women and girls learn in their own separate classes, from home.

Classes are held daily, with morning and evening times, so that they can fit around school, college and work. Let us know what suits you and we will find a suitable class.

A phone, tablet or computer with a steady internet connection, and a quiet place to sit. Earphones help. We will send the class link before the first class.

Yes. Each course follows a structured syllabus, from the first lesson to its final goal. The pace is set by the students, so that nothing is rushed.

Because the teacher hears your child read in every class, he knows exactly where they are. You are welcome to ask on WhatsApp at any time.

If you cannot yet read the Arabic letters, begin with Nazirah & Tajweed. If you can read and wish to complete the Qur'an with a teacher, Daura-e-Qur'an is the next step. If you read already and wish to understand what you recite, choose Qur'anic Arabic. The first class will confirm the right place to start.

Most children are ready at around five years old, once they can sit attentively for a short lesson. There is no upper age limit — children, teenagers and adults each learn with others at a similar stage.

It is never too late. Many adults begin with the alphabet. Adults learn separately from children, at a steady pace, without any pressure.

It depends on age, prior knowledge and practice. With daily classes and a little practice at home, most beginners are reading words within a few months, and continue to grow in fluency and Tajweed after that. After the first class, the teacher can give an honest sense of the path ahead.

Tajweed is the art of reciting the Qur'an correctly: giving each letter its proper sound and quality, and following the rules of how letters meet — such as ghunnah, madd and qalqalah. It is how the Qur'an has been recited since it was revealed.

That is the purpose of the Qur'anic Arabic course. It teaches the vocabulary and grammar of the Qur'an step by step, for students who do not speak Arabic, so that its meaning begins to reach you as you recite and listen.
