Qur'anic Arabic: understanding the Qur'an
For those who read the Qur'an and now wish to understand it.
Many of us have recited the Qur'an for years without understanding its words. This course teaches the most common words of the Qur'an, how Arabic words grow from their roots, and the grammar of Qur'anic sentences — step by step, for students who do not speak Arabic. It is taught by Mohammad Shafi Mir, who holds an MA in Arabic from the University of Kashmir.

What is taught
- The most frequent words — learned first, so that familiar surahs begin to open up quickly.
- Roots and patterns — how a three-letter root gives rise to a whole family of related words.
- Nouns, verbs and particles — the building blocks of every verse.
- Grammar and word forms — nahw and sarf, always taught through examples from the Qur'an.
- Reading with understanding — bringing it together, beginning with the surahs we recite in salah.

How the classes are taught
Classes are live and online, in small groups of students of a similar age and level. Women and girls learn in their own separate classes. Classes are held daily, in the morning and evening, and lessons are explained in Urdu, Kashmiri, Hindi or English. Every class is taught by Mohammad Shafi Mir, and the first class is free of charge.
Questions
Will I understand the meaning of the Qur'an?
That is the purpose of the Qur'anic Arabic course. It teaches the vocabulary and grammar of the Qur'an step by step, for students who do not speak Arabic, so that its meaning begins to reach you as you recite and listen.
Which course should I begin with?
If you cannot yet read the Arabic letters, begin with Nazirah & Tajweed. If you can read and wish to complete the Qur'an with a teacher, Daura-e-Qur'an is the next step. If you read already and wish to understand what you recite, choose Qur'anic Arabic. The first class will confirm the right place to start.
Who teaches the classes?
The classes are taught by Mohammad Shafi Mir, who has more than 25 years of teaching experience. He holds an MA in Arabic from the University of Kashmir, where he was a gold medalist, as well as a Fazil in Islamic Studies, an MA in Urdu and a B.Ed.
Which languages are the lessons taught in?
Lessons are explained in Urdu, Kashmiri, Hindi or English, so each student can learn in the language they understand best. The Qur'an itself is, of course, read in Arabic.
When are the classes held?
Classes are held daily, with morning and evening times, so that they can fit around school, college and work. Let us know what suits you and we will find a suitable class.
Is the first class free?
Yes. The first class is free of charge. It is a chance to meet the teacher, read together, and find the right place to begin. You can arrange it on WhatsApp or by phone.
